TABLE OF CONTENTS
The idea of family normalcy is especially prized by those with loved ones who can’t easily share in fun activities or even routine ones. Each member of the family feels a loss at some point about experiences that are just too challenging to access. For these families, capturing the essence of those desired moments in some creative way is where support from the community really makes a difference.
What Can You Do with Siblings This Month?
- Ask your child what activities he or she feels the family is missing out on the most. Listen and validate their perspective and acknowledge you understand. You may even feel the same and it’s OK to say so.
- Next, brainstorm a list of all the activities that work well for your family. Keep it where everyone can see it. Look for the common aspects between your successful outings and those yet to be mastered. Let your child know these are steps toward the dreams you share.
The Power of Parents
The quickest way parents can find inclusive family activities is by searching the term “sensory-friendly”. A growing community outreach movement will actually draw your family to places you may not have thought to visit before!
