5-6 Month Milestones

TABLE OF CONTENTS
As your baby grows, they hit certain milestones along the way. At five to six months, babies are developing more fine motor and communication skills. Delays in these milestones could be a potential sign of autism or other related disorders. At ACES ABA, our team is here to support you through the milestones your baby is growing through and help with developmental delays through early infant intervention.

Adaptive Milestones
At this age, babies will begin to grasp objects. They may start to bring objects to their mouth, which is a sign of their increasing hand-eye coordination. By six months, babies can hold the bottle during feeding and may start to transfer items from one hand to another.

Cognitive Milestones
At five to six months, babies will be able to track moving objects with their eyes and will begin to recognize familiar faces and objects. They may also respond to sound by turning their head in the direction of the noise. Early problem-solving skills will also begin to emerge as babies learn to reach for objects that are out of reach.

Communication Milestones
Babbling and vocalizing will become more frequent as the baby responds to sounds by making sounds. They will also begin to understand simple words and commands, such as their name. They can start to string vowels together when babbling and like taking turns with a parent while making sounds.

Movement Milestones
At five to six months, a baby can typically sit up with support for a few seconds. They may also begin to roll over from their tummy to their back, and some babies may rock back and forth, sometimes crawling backward before moving forward.

Social and Emotional Milestones
Babies will start to smile at familiar faces and may even begin to laugh. Babies will start to recognize familiar faces and begin to know if someone is a stranger.Tracking developmental milestones is crucial in identifying potential delays and ensuring that babies receive the appropriate care and support they need. While every baby develops at their own pace, understanding milestones can provide reassurance. If you suspect your child is developing slowly, our team at ACES ABA can help!
