Do You Have a Child under Three Years Old and Find Yourself Asking These Questions?

  • Why is my child not talking?
  • Why doesn't my child look at me?
  • Why doesn’t my child make eye contact?
  • My child seems deaf. Is my child deaf? Can my child hear me?

    • Respond to their name
    • Smile
    • Show affection
  • My child isn't:
    • Looking at me
    • Making eye contact
    • Turning or looking when I call their name
  • Should I be worried if my child:
    • Is ignoring me
    • Is not walking
    • Is in his/her own world
    • Spins in circles
    • Talks gibberish
    • Flaps his/her hands

If your child engages in any of these behaviors you may want to consider Early Intervention for your child. Early Intervention with ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) can help your child to "catch up" to their same aged peers.

What is Early Intervention?

  • Early Intervention is when professionals help to identify, provide support and apply their expertise in the areas where your child is most at risk.
  • If your child is not meeting developmental milestones, they may have a developmental delay.
  • Early intervention Service focus on the areas of:
    • Physical skills (reaching, crawling, walking, drawing, building)
    • Cognitive skills (thinking and problem solving)
    • Communication skills (talking and responding to others)
    • Self-help or adaptive skills (eating, dressing)
    • Social or emotional skills (playing, interacting with others)

Does my child qualify for early intervention services?

  • Express your concerns to your child's doctor. They can complete a developmental screening with you and refer you to a local service that can give you more information about access to early intervention services, if needed.

How long do early intervention services last?

  • Early intervention services are typically provided until a child turns three years old. In some states, early intervention services are provided until age five.
  • If a child approaches age three and continues to display developmental delays, it's recommended they are seen for a diagnostic assessment and provided a recommendation for ongoing treatment.
