Halloween!

On October 31, 2015, Swanky Brain held its inaugural Halloween party for teenagers and young adults on the Autism Spectrum. Swanky Brain is an organization founded by a parent of four, all of whom are on the Autism Spectrum. They provide consultation and support services to individuals on the spectrum and their families. In conjunction with helping the Behaviorally Challenging Child, they provide non-profit events to the community and the 2015 Halloween party was a great example.

Social opportunities are so important for teenagers and young adults on the spectrum and this night was a great chance to practice social skills. The event was well organized and executed in a manner that was mindful of some of the challenges our clients face. Social stories were read and quiet corners were provided. A dance instructor and interactive DJs were on hand to provide structure to the evening. Chaperones were scattered throughout the room to encourage attendees to get up on the dance floor and socialize with their peers. And of course, no Halloween party would be complete without Halloween-inspired food and an award ceremony for the best costumes of the night!

ACES proudly sponsored this event by providing qualified chaperones. We look forward to being involved again next year. Thanks, Swanky Brain!
